Bush stance on al-Qaida suspects is morally wrong, says Colin Powell

Well, this made the front page of even The Oregonian today. Finally, Powell is speaking out. I hope he does more of that if he has any integrity at all. It was disappointing to see him kowtowing to the Bush Administration line on Iraq. One sensed (and later read) that as a seasoned soldier he knew better. Of course, it brings up the oft repeated line about good people doing nothing.

He should listen to another soldier Lt. Watada and rethink his past loyalties and use what is left of his reputation to truly defend the people of this country.

HI JACQUELINE,

YOU ARE A VERY PERCEPTIVE, INTELLIGENT, THOUGHTFUL, AND TALENTED WRITER, SO I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY YOU ARE NOT RECEIVING MORE COMMENTS.

THIS ARTICLE AND EARLIER POSTS BRING ONE PARTICULAR ISSUE TO THE FOREFRONT - INTEGRITY.

COLIN POWELL SEEMED TO HAVE MORE INTEGRITY THAN ANYONE IN THIS REGIME (ADMINISTRATION); YET TIME AFTER TIME, HIS INTEGRITY WAS THE FIRST SACRIFICIAL VICTIM OF THE "PARTY LINE".
YOUR OBSERVATIONS ABOUT MR. POWELL ARE RIGHT ON THE MARK.

WE SAW DISTURBING EXAMPLES OF THE LACK OF INTEGRITY IN THE CASE OF ANNA MAE.
SOME OF MY RELATIVES WHO WERE INSIDE WOUNDED KNEE FOR THE WHOLE OCCUPATION HAVE SPOKEN ABOUT THE DISPARITY BETWEEN THOSE WHO PLACED THEMSELVES ON THE LINE, AND OTHER SO-CALLED LEADERS (FROM CERTAIN NORTHERN BORDER STATES) WHO WERE OUT BEING CHEAP PUBLICITY HOUNDS.
WHERE WAS THEIR INTEGRITY?
PERHAPS UNSCRUPULOUS AUTHORITIES WITH KNOWLEDGE OF CERTAIN CRIMINAL ENTERPRISES, FORCED THESE PEOPLE TO SELL-OUT. PERHAPS TO AVOID DETECTION, THEY THEN SETUP ANNA MAE.
I CANNOT SAY FOR SURE. IT IS JUST A THOUGHT.

THE BRUTAL BEATINGS OF MISFORTUNATE DENE (NAVAJO) BY AIMLESS, SAVAGE WHITEBOYS WITH TOO MUCH TIME ON THEIR HANDS, IS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW A SENSE OF INTEGRITY NEVER TOOK HOLD IN THE CONSCIENCE OF EACH OF THESE PATHETIC LOSERS.
THEY ARE LIKE HOLDEN CAULFIELD ON STEROIDS AND ANGELDUST.

PERHAPS THEIR PARENTS TRIED TO TEACH THEM BETTER; HOWEVER, WE AS A SOCIETY ARE FAILING THE NEXT GENERATIONS.
IN SHAMELESS PANDERING FOR VOTES, OUR SO-CALLED LEADERS ARE DEVELOPING A CULTURE OF FEAR AND HOPELESSNESS.
SUCH A DIM VIEW OF THE FUTURE DOES NOT EXCUSE THESE YOUNG PEOPLE FROM RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR (MOST RECENT IN A LONG LINE OF) SAVAGE ACTS; HOWEVER, IT DOES NOT HELP EITHER.
I WONDER HOW MANY OF THE PERPETRATORS ALSO CLAIM TO BE GOOD CHRISTIANS.

KEEP OF THE GOOD WORK, JACQUELINE. YOU ARE APPRECIATED.

Jacqueline, Hi, I couldn't find an email address to contact you. I recently finished a short film, "Ghost Tribes" on the Virginia Indian's search for Federal Recognition. It was recently selected as a finalist for the 3rd Millennium Foundation's "Seeds of Tolerance" Film compeition, and I'd like to give you a little bit more info. I recently talked with Prof. Calloway at Dartmouth.

On Powell: I seem to remember that he was instrumental in the My Lai coverup and in the devastation of Central America via U.S. sponsored wars. I did no fact checking before typing this, so I hope I am not slandering him. I doubt that I am, though.

If he is sincere in this comment on Al-Quaida, that will be evidence that people can change. I hope so.
